Faith (1994 British TV Mini-Series/Drama)

Picture: C     Sound: B-     Extras: D     Episodes: B-

Michael Gambon is the politician at the center of chaos and scandal in a whirlpool he has caused in part in Faith, a very non-religious drama from British TV as his daughter (Susannah Harker) is caught between her father and lover/reporter (John Hannah) when Gambon has one too many damaging secrets to hide.  Lasting 3.5 hours, this is well written by Simon Burke and director John Strictland deserves kudos for keeping the material involving beyond the page.

Though he has been in some odd projects in the past (Barry Levinson’s Toys) Gambon has been involved with, he is a distinctive actor and carries the lead well against a great cast.  The title does have to do with faith in people and government.  This would also include family, though the mini-series handles that issue with openness that was a bit daring then and seems on time now.

The 1.33 X 1 image is a little softer than you would think for a still-recent production.  It is nicely shot and directed, which still comes through.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has Pro Logic surrounds and dialogue is well recorded.  There are no extras, but the series is worth your time.
