L.Zaide – Planet Chill: Memoirs Of A Jazz Band

Sound: B     Music: B-

In a fascinating take on older standard classics, L.Zaide tries a Cool Jazz vocal approach to said songs on his ambitiously titled CD Planet Chill: Memoirs Of A Jazz Band (2005), featuring the following songs:

1)     Fly Me To The Moon

2)     I Only Have Eyes For You

3)     I Fall In Love Too Easily

4)     Blue & Sentimental

5)     Night & Day

6)     Corcovado

7)     Blue Moon

8)     April In Paris

9)     Caravan

10)  You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To

11)  Corcovado – The Chill Take

12)  Night & Day – Planet L.Zaide Intro

Fans of these classics might enjoy the new approach, but traditionalists like this critic will not enjoy them quite as much.  I think as good as his voice is, the approach glosses over the finer points of the songs, no matter how sincerely performed.  This is one you will have to hear for yourself to decide on.  The PCM 2.0 16Bit/44.1kHz Stereo is a new recording and has good clarity, which is to be expected, especially from this music genre.  Even if it is not your taste, you will not be able to complain much about the sonics.
