Hetty Wainthropp Investigates – The Complete Fourth Series

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: B-

Patricia Rutledge, Dominic Monahan and company returned as Hetty Wainthropp Investigates yet more murder in The Complete Fourth Series, but the season is back down to six hour-long slotted shows.  It was also the final season.  The episodes this time include:

1)     Something To Treasure

2)     Family Values

3)     Digging For Dirt

4)     Mind Over Muscle

5)     Blood Relations

6)     For Love Nor Money

The actual mystery tales still continued to be decent, if often typical, but they are also comic and well cast.  However, if you want a box set, getting three more episodes with this set is tempting, so one who has not seen this series still needs to mull over the decision well.  I think the actors deserve as much credit as anyone for keeping it fresh and real, which is the core of its success.  They went out on as much on top as they could.

The 1.33 X 1 aspect ratio is almost consistent with the quality of the episode from the first three sets, but is fuzzier and not quite as clear.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo once again has Pro Logic surround in all cases, but it seems more compressed and limited than the previous seasons.  This demonstrates a production shift that lost a little quality in translation.  Extras again include production notes and filmographies on DVD 1, but that again is sadly all.  Hetty Wainthropp Investigates continued it winning ways, hitting its stride and quitting while they were ahead.
