Home Movies – Season Four

Home Movies - Season Four is the understandably final season of a show that played out all of its jokes before they became too stale and tired.  As noted in our previous review, the writers knew how to comment on the things people are thinking about, complaining about or observing interesting things that the rest of the media is missing.  It is always unexpected and funny, with the characters not knowing what to think about anything sometimes, while others being passively focused on the self (very healthy) and having half given up on life.

Once again, the center of this are the kids in the show who want to shoot and edit their videotaped home movies, which is not overly focused on throughout the series, but does lead to so many other funny and wacky situations that it gives the writers all kinds of directions to take the series in.  The episodes are as follows, all with commentaries:

1)     Camp#

2)     Bye, Bye Greasy

3)     The Heart Smashers

4)     Everybody’s Entitled To An Opinion

5)     The Wizard’s Baker#

6)     Psycho-Delicate

7)     Curses

8)     Honkey Magoo

9)     Those Bitches Tried To Cheat Me

10)  Definite Possible Murder

11)  Temporary Blindness

12)  Focus Grill

The 1.33 x 1 image remains colorful and despite its simple animation, is vivid and consistent throughout.  There are few problems with the transfer and is a pleasure to view throughout.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo still does not have any serious Pro Logic surrounds, but is very clean and clear, which is good because so many of the jokes are so good and have such good timing, but are also funny because of the way they are delivered by the voice actors.  Extras include a bonus CD in the copy we received with 52 tracks from all four seasons, animatics for one episode per each of the three discs as marked above by an #, a featurette on the beginning of the series on DVD 1, audio outtakes jukebox on DVD 2 and The Shins, the publication The Onion and a group of fans have their own commentaries among the extras.  Fitting extras by Shout! Factory for a fitting conclusion to the series.
