Sins Of The Children (Roan)

Picture: C     Sound: C-     Extras: C     Film: C

Another early sound film from MGM, Saw Wood’s Sins Of The Children (1930) is the very simple story of a German immigrant barber who builds a life for his children, only for them to grow up ingrates and ruin the whole family.  This is some clichéd, sappy and melodramatic stuff, but is interesting as an early sound production from the #1 studio of the classical Hollywood era.  Robert Montgomery heads the cast.

The 1.33 X 1 image shows its age with detail limits and other print flaws, though Grey Scale and Video Black are not bad, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono is very distorted, low and down a few generations.  Extras include Lou Lembeck introduction, trailers for other Roan product, Bill Winckler on father Bobby Winckler and film scholar Frank Thompson discusses the film.
