Art Of The Devil II

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Film: C-

Missing Art Of The Devil I, the 2004 Thai film had enough interest that a sequel was made, I could not image why after watching the new sequel.  Art Of The Devil II (2005) is obsessed with mouths, lips and other loose skin being hooked on, as well as the blood that is drawn from that.  The action centers around a bunch of men and their casting of a spell on a sexy teacher that obviously backfires, made worse by the witch doctor (from India!) who thinks cannibalism will curse this.

What is supposed to be terrifying is outright stupid and the seven directors who made this are far from able to cohere it into a narrative or even abstract narrative film that adds up to any suspense or interest.  You never care about the characters, while many of the gross moments seem more like gimmicks and tricks.  This is part of Media Blasters’ Tokyo Shock series and the real shock is the waste of 100 minutes.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is soft and color is inconsistent throughout, with detail limits and Video Black issues.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo in English or Thai has no major surrounds, though this sounds like it should.  Extras include four trailers, but that is all.
