Aimee Allen – Dream (CD)

Sound: B     Music: B-

I have heard more female Jazz vocalists in the last few years than I ever thought I would hear in my life and Aimee Allen can sing as good as many of them, but her new album Dream just did not work for me.  Covers of My Favorite Things, Cry Me A River and even Honeysuckle Rose (of which I am not a fan to begin with) never gel, while the more obscure songs (some of which she wrote) are only so memorable.  You will have to hear them for yourself in audio clips to see what you think, but I would pass.

The PCM 16bit/44.1kHz 2.0 Stereo is nicely recorded enough with clarity that does not translate into anything generic.  Allen produced herself and seems to know what she wants, so even if the results are not spectacular, they are consistent and maybe her next CD will be better.
