Roseanne – Halloween Edition

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C

After watching through several season of Roseanne, Anchor Bay has decided to issue a compilation of all their Halloween shows on a singe DVD dubbed the Halloween Edition.  Unfortunately, though the initial shows ticked off the Religious Right and others who get confused about Halloween as a fun night of candy and some secret plot to promote Satan!

Not bad for people who act like Satan.  Anyhow, the early shows are amusing, but the later ones eventually degenerate into one-joke shows and adding gay characters later make them sillier still.  This is a disc strictly for fans or as a bizarre gag.  Otherwise, stick with the box sets.

The 1.33 X 1 image varies a bit from season to season, with the earliest shows softest and later ones a little more digitally harsh than expected.  It is no better or worse than the series box sets, but having shows from each season makes the flaws more obvious.  Though credited as having Pro Logic surrounds, the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo has weak surrounds at best and any surround field is very weak.  The only extra is a new Roseanne interview where she talks about “breaking the rules” by doing these shows.  The first few were enough.
