The Latin Legends Of Comedy (Fox)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Concert: C+

J.J. Ramirez, Angel Salazar and Joe Vega are the three comedians who for this DVD comprise The Latin Legends Of Comedy, a new 92 minutes-long concert show with interview and thoughts in between each stand-up routine.  It turns out they broke more ground than they might be known to have for Latino comics.  We hear their stories, history and get insight into how not so long ago, stand-up had all kinds of obstacles and racism to make it.

The majority of what we get is some decent comedy and though I was not falling on the floor laughing, I did smile a good few times and appreciated both the boldness and wit of what these men had to offer.  Why they were not more commercially successful is odd since they are at least as good as George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez, but director Ray Ellin has good material here to work with and the result is worth a look.

The 1.85 X 1 letterboxed image has detail issues and is not very colorful, but is playable and clean.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo sound has no real surrounds, but is nicely recorded.  There are no extras, but many titles in this category do not, so that is no surprise.
