Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow (Blu-ray)

Picture: B-     Sound: B     Extras: C-     Feature: D

Another film that was hyped as interesting and hardly anyone seems to like or talk about is Kerry Conran’s Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow (2004) which wasted Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow (who supported the project early on) and Angelina Jolie.  For my comments on the film, you can go to the following link with my coverage of the HD-DVD:

The HD-originated picture is as soft in this edition as its counterpart, but unfortunately, the sound here is not as good as that of the HD-DVD since DTS HD 5.1 has not been included despite appearing on all the second-wave Lionsgate Blu-rays.  The Sky Captain HD-DVD is the only recent film to have DTS-HD included.

Maybe it is the 5GB difference, giving Paramount less room for the DTS-HD tracks, but there is standard DTS that is still not bad, but with extras that are all the same and a picture that is virtually the same, the HD-DVD version is a bit better.  As a Blu-ray, it is still a good disc, but not the full sound demo the mix master can deliver.
