CSI: Miami – The Complete Fourth Season

On the streets with the cops and detectives, in the courtroom with lawyers and judges, and now we explore the world of the crime lab with forensic scientists.  CSI: Miami – The Complete Fourth Season recapitulates all the aspects of the first three seasons that the audience took-in and loved.  Horatio Caine (David Caruso) head of the Miami Crime Lab plays front man for his crack team of forensic scientists.  Each episode centers on one or two murders that are as intricate as they are entertaining.  Detective Caine being the lead criminalist often times shows many attributes of other past, great, detectives with his slick and hardened demeanor; often ending each scene with a witty remark (picture a detective capturing a killer accountant… “I guess we got his number,” play music).  Season Four, much like the other seasons, has great stories with a good cast.  This series by this point has embodied the idea of delving not only into the crimes but also entwines each episode into the personal lives of many of the characters; centering on drugs, sex, and emotion.  Overall, CSI: Miami is a great show with much to offer.

The series where very entertaining the first time viewed, it holds little for the ability to be rewatched.  Many TV series are must haves to own for one’s collection, but many crime dramas such as the Law and Order Series and CSI’s are hard to view again once the mystery has come and gone.  If you are interested in seeing a crime series that keeps you on the edge of your set from beginning to end CSI: Miami is sure to please.  But if the audience has viewed the episodes once, for those other than those diehard fans, this DVD set may come up short of entertaining without the constant mystery.

The technical aspects of this DVD set are adequate but nothing fancy.  The picture for this 25 episode, 7 Disc set is sufficient in is anamorphic widescreen format.  At times the picture seems too dark and gritty even beyond the normal flashy, eye-popping nature of series, definitely originating from the DVD transfer.  The sound is presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround, which overall is quite good but at times sounds distant for certain scenes.  The extras for this set are quite boring and lacking in quantity.  Offered up for special features are 3 featurettes including Creating Feature Television, Producing Feature Television, and Finishing Feature Television.  The extras overall fail to hold the viewers interest.  In the end, the technicals of this TV on DVD set are passable but more could be done to improve the overall quality.

Who are you?  Are you the type who likes to peer into the scientific and detailed world of forensic science?  If you love tasteful dose of blood and guts with a touch of mystery and crime, then CSI: Miami - The Complete Fourth Season is for you.  Though the forensic science field has been beaten to death, especially by CBS, the original (better) CSI series and this Miami rendition still hold the audiences’ attention throughout.  CSI: Miami is interesting, flashy, and goes into most areas the general public would never see.  It is true that many of the technical aspects of the series seem quite a bit fictitious, but overall remains scientifically accurate and entertaining.  Gear up for the Complete Fourth Season of this rib crackin' crime drama.
