The
radical, triumphant and eventually sad life of Wendy O. Williams is being
thought of with new appreciation a few years after she took her own life. Running three hours, Wendy O. Williams & The Plasmatics The DVD: Ten Years Of
Revolutionary Rock N Roll is a compilation of various concert and
performance pieces that runs about three hours and is divided into years. Though not perfect, it is interesting in its
raw presentation and brisk pace showing her at her wildest.
Though we
have seen such compilations before, they have been lame, sloppy and awkward in
all cases. This time, it works because
it feels real and the persons involved had a good instinct for putting this
together outside of simply putting the materials in some kind of order. It often approximates the experience of what
put her and her band on the map and that is more than worthy of a solid DVD
like this.
The
images are usually from old analog NTSC video that is often not professionally
shot in the Punk tradition. The Dolby
Digital 2.0 is somewhat stereo at times, with newer interviews sounding better
than the music, more on par again with Punk.
Some
additional production and other notes offers four brief pieces about her
career and server as the only extras.
