The Simple Life 4 - ‘Til Death Do Us Part

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Episodes: C

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie were no longer friends (supposedly) yet still under contract for their hit “reality TV” series The Simple Life and the joke and amusement are over.  Forget about DUI arrests and dumb quotes in the media, what was amusing before is not again and the show fails to reinvent itself that is detrimental.

Each family visit by the duo this time is no longer fun and is now more like Mary Poppins in reverse.  At a time when the Bunim/Murray production team’s series The Real World is finally running out of steam, maybe their whole outfit is getting bored with the cycle they created.  Yes, the stars have an appeal, but it is now straitjacketed by a fun idea that has become formula.  If death does not do them apart, boredom will.

The 1.33 X 1 image is cleanly taped professional analog NTSC video, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo lacks good Pro Logic surrounds this time for whatever reason.  There are once again no extras, but you will get more than enough of “the girls” in this set.
