An Evening With Andy Williams – Live At The Royal
Albert Hall (RPM Films DVD)
Picture: C- Sound: C+ Extras: D Concert: C
Back in
the 1930s, Andy Williams was singing in a family vocal act with his
brothers. After some singing partners
and collaborations, he went solo in the early 1950s and stayed that way on a
phenomenal roll of hit albums and singles afterwards. He was also an act with more big hit albums
than singles! An Evening With Andy Williams – Live At The Royal Albert Hall was
recorded in 1978 and by this time, Williams had become a legacy act and was
being touted as the mentor of The Osmonds.
This DVD
has the entire concert with interview inserts from the time and it runs nearly
100 minutes when al is said and done.
The best known songs include I
Can’t Smile Without You, Breaking Up
Is Hard To Do, Just The Way You Are,
Macarthur Park, Charade, Can’t Get Use To
Losing You, Born Free and a West
Side Story medley. Needless to
say he does them so middle-of-the-road that you soon feel like you’ll be road
kill. He has fared better before and
just seems somewhat bored at this point.
The 1.33
X 1 image is awful, with digititis throughout and down so many generations that
color is lame. The PCM 2.0 16/48 Stereo
is barely that. There are no extras.
