The Eden Formula (2006)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Feature: D

Jeff Fahey and Dee Wallace Stone star in the cheapie dinosaur project The Eden Formula, John Carl Buechler’s truly disposable 2006 effort that makes the Carnosaur films look like Jurassic Park.  Again, science has revived the famed creature, but it was not enough to deliver a good script.  The title refers to the technology that can replicate any living organism.

With a subplot that includes some militarized spies trying to steal secrets, this is one of the worst Science Fiction projects I have seen in years and I actually felt bad for Stone, riding through the film playing her histrionic character.  The hype ad says “some experiments should never be attempted” while the back of the DVD case notes “a deadly mistake” that applies more to this getting made than the vapid storyline.  This is as horrible as Blair Witch, but fortunately, most people will not see this one.

The 1.33 X 1 image was shot on low definition digital and looks soft throughout despite a clean source.  Visual effects are lame, editing shockingly sloppy and digital camerawork by James Legoy bad.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 is barely stereo and not that well recorded.  The combination is dated on arrival and just does not work.  The only extra is a trailer, which is more than this wreck deserves.
