Open Water 2 – Adrift

When
Artisan got lucky having a hit with the unfortunate Blair Witch Project, they mistook it for a real franchise, did an
expensive sequel and a financial disaster resulted. Now absorbed by Lionsgate, the whole company
got sort of lucky again with Open Water,
a cheaply made bit about a couple stuck in the middle of the water. Can they survive? Profitable, if not a massive hit, we now have
Open Water 2 – Adrift. This time, it was a limited release going
straight to DVD.
A group
of people get together on the boat including a captain that deals illegal
drugs, but it should be a fun time for all.
That is until they cannot get back on the bat, an infant is stranded
there alone and they are stuck in the water with little hope of survival
despite being near the actual ship. We
essentially get the same film again, but decorated with more people and
props. Too bad we never care for the
underdeveloped characters or the tired situation. This will still be a curio at best, but see
the first one if you must see either.
The
anamorphically enhanced 2.35 X 1 image is soft, color limited, detail limited
and mighty have been shot digitally. It
is not terribly impressive and has limited rewatchability. The Dolby Digital 5.1 is better than the
Dolby 2.0, but not by much, with dialogue not as full as it should be or much
in the way of surrounds. The only extra
is a making of piece so obligatory that it is also a bore.
