Aynsley Lister Live! (DVD-Video)

Picture: C+     Sound: B-     Extras: C-     Concert: B-

Taped March 23, 2004 Bonn, Germany at Harmonie, Aynsley Lister Live! offers a solid, lively full-length concert featuring the Blues/Rock guitarist in good humor and form.  This show was part of Rockpalast Crossroads Festival and was likely a highlight as good as it is.

He performs the following songs with his band:

1)     Aeroplane Blues

2)     As The Crow Flies

3)     Say Goodbye

4)     Balls Of Steel

5)     Snake

6)     Everything I Need

7)     Angel ‘O’ Mine

8)     Now You’re Gone

9)     Take Me To The River

10)  Runnin’ Out On Me

11)  Sometimes It Gets 2 Me

12)  Soundman

13)  Fallin’ Down

What I liked is that he did not settle back on old Blues archetypes like so many such DVD concerts have, but is energized by the Rock aesthetic and that is why this is one of the better concerts we have seen lately.  That makes this worth a look for all music fans and the fact that he can sing and has a really good voice is a plus, reminding one of Chris Isaac in the best of ways.  Hope we hear more from Lister soon.

The 1.33 X 1 image is not bad for what looks like a PAL analog shoot, with some good color for the format and is pleasant enough to watch.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 is fairly good, but I also liked the PCM 2.0 16-bit/48kHz Stereo which was warmer and slightly better.  Extras include brief backstage footage, interview and Bonus song “Hush” though there was room for much more.
