In
another strong collection of NOVA
science programs, Epidemic group
four must-see programs in one box set and this time, WGBH is using slender
cases. We have seen half of the shows
already and those are marked with links to their respective reviews.
Ebola: The Plague Fighters
This
strong installment of NOVA shows the
hideous effects of the unbelievably deadly virus and how it comes back to Zaire
after 20 years. Internal organs and
connective tissues are destroyed, blood comes out of all orifices and it can
travel in the air, but often by animals and insects. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Just about all who get it die and it is
mutating!
Surviving AIDS
Instead
of being just another tale on how to take tons of drugs and be careful, about
your diet so you essentially slow death, this NOVA installment is about a man who has been infected since 1978
and survives decades later without any drugs or dietary changes. Why?
That becomes the starting point for new ways to look at and attack the
virus that is still mutating at epidemic levels as you read this. The result is one of the most informative
programs on AIDS to date.
