The Best Of Casper The Friendly Ghost - Volume 1 & 2 (Classic Media/Genius Entertainment)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Shorts: C+

When 2006 produced the so-called Harveytoons: The Complete Collection and it turned out not to live up to its name, fans were furious and it became one of the year’s DVD faux pas.  You can read more about it at this link:

Now, Classic Media has decided to issue some of the Casper shorts on their own in to single-DVD sets dubbed The Best Of Casper and containing 10 main shorts, plus two bonus one in each volume.  This is not penance, but a smart move for those who did not want to buy that nicely-illustrated box.  The classic cartoons were produced in Technicolor and hold up well enough.

The titles for each set are:

Volume One:

True Boo

Boo Ribbon Winner

Good Scream Fun

Fright From Wrong

Zero To Hero

Ground Hog Play

Boo Hoo Baby

Spooking About Africa

Puss ‘N Boots

Hide & Shriek

Red, White & Boo

Hide & Shriek

Volume Two:

Frightday The 13th

Hooky Spooky

Little Boo Peep

North Pal

Keep Your Grin Up

Penguin For Your Thoughts

Spook & Span

Spook No Evil

Spunky Skunky

Boo Bop

To Boo Or Not To Boo

Spooking With A Brogue

Picture and sound on the discs are the same as the Harveytoons set, though I was more impressed than my fellow critic with the color at times.  There are really no extras and counting two of the shorts as bonus, especially when it is said that Casper picked them personally, was a bit much.  Otherwise, they are priced well and easily some of the best animated Casper material on DVD to date.
