The Kinsey Sicks – I Want To Be A Republican (Comedy Concert/Gay/Cross Dressing/Political
Satire)

After so
many shows with men dressing up as women to be silly, gay culture not
withstanding, The Kinsey Sicks are a troop of cross-dressers with a
surprisingly funny concert spoofing politics called I Want To Be A Republican.
Democrats are not even spared, but it is the GOP who is obviously the
target as the comedy troop goes into “Log Cabin” mode talking about why they
want to be with the party of the elephant.
Running
over 80 minutes, much of this more of a musical than expected and is
surprisingly smart, witty, clever and consistent throughout. It can also be bold and does this with good
timing. It takes some adjusting to watch
if you are not used to cross-dressing or men as women being overly silly like
you might find on Kids In The Hall,
but it is more mature than expected. The
jokes are more hits than misses and for all the comedy DVDs we’ve seen lately
(a good thing at that), it is one of the better releases.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft, but color is not bad despite
the limits of the HD source and the tradedown here. Angles are not bad and editing actually helps
the humor. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is
really to feature the audience, but this is dialogue-based for the most part
and recorded well enough to enjoy.
Extras include two amusing audio commentary tracks with The Kinsey Sicks
and the makers, multi-angle feature, trailer, stills, If These Wigs Could Talk making-of featurette, four additional songs,
bloopers, cast/crew interviews and text bios.
