Tanya Tucker (1981 Concert/MVD Visual)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: D     Film: B-

Tanya Tucker was the kind of bold Country singer you’d never see today because most of the female vocalists/writers/performers have little substance or are more flash than substance.  She was on a roll on the Country charts when she taped this 1981 concert at The Church Street Station in Florida.  She sings eight songs and sadly butchers Helen Reddy’s hit Delta Dawn.  Her performances are fairly good, but she has done better.  Many at the time may have seen her on TV’s Solid Gold, where she infamously did not get along with Dionne Warwick.

As a bonus, fellow MCA Records (now Universal) artist Terri Gibbs shows up and sings four songs, including her one Pop hit Somebody’s Knockin’ from 1981 resulting in better performances.  Tucker had her only Pop hit in 1975.  Both are analog tapings and the 1.33 X 1 image is very soft.   Color is limited and depth is a joke.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is unfortunately mono all the way and there are no extras.
