Mummy Maniac (2007/Lionsgate)

Picture: C-    Sound: C     Extras: D     Feature: D

With no good Mummy films since Hammer was making them, the low-budget Max Nikoff mess Mummy Maniac (2007) is actually about yet another serial killer.  This time, it is one who mummifies his victims, sort of.  Once again to hide the lack of story, we see the silly “inspired by actual events” tag and this is an awful mess.

You never believe anyone or anything, the acting is bottom notch if you can even call it that and the budget so low that they could obviously not afford enough bandage wrappings.  Instead, the victims look more like they are suffering from a toothache circa 1943 and is a total waste.  This extends to the playback.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is poor in so many ways, including in detail, color and anyway else you can imagine.  It is so unwatchable on top of how bad this is that we could not believe it.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix takes the poor, barely stereo sound and badly recorded sound, then smudges it around to no avail.  Just awful and there are no extras.
