Beneath (Thriller/MTV Home Video)

Picture: C+     Sound: B-     Extras: D     Feature: D

MTV has tried to dabble in feature films and with rare exception (School Of Rock, Freedom Writers) have produced some very forgettable works.  Even without their hand producing, many consider their network as destroying overall culture (film, music, TV, etc.) as we know it.  The latest attempt is an awful Horror Thriller piece called Beneath, badly directed by Dagen Merril.

The mercifully short 81 minutes involves two sisters, one who is alive and the other dead because of an auto accident as the younger of the two was driving the car.  She is supposedly dead, but could she be alive or is there even another supernatural force at work in addition?  Despite an “R” rating, this is somewhat lite and remarkably predictable throughout with its pretty unknown cast and general flatness.  You will get a scary or stupid/happy ending, but will be very bored long before then.  Another yawner to skip.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 image is soft, has odd color and is not that memorably shot by Director Of Photography Mike Southon, B.S.C., despite the style British cameramen usually offer.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is at least lively enough to keep this snoozer going, if barely.  There are no extras.
