Everyone
is looking for the next stand-up comedy sensation, high and low, hoping
lighting will strike. It takes good
writing, timing and a personality that can keep people watching. The
Amazing Johnathan – Wrong On Every Level offers “The Madman of Comedy” doing
disappearing acts, eating razor blades or joking “Burns & Allen” style with
a female assistant. Brian Regan – Standing Up is a more straightforward stand-up with
plenty of jokes.
Though
neither had me laughing, the Regan show is more humorous and consistent
overall. They both have talent, but
whether they will take off as names is another question. Now you can try them out.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image on Up
is no better than the 1.33 X 1 image on Wrong,
both typical of the static shooting of stand-up comedy on home video. The sound on both is Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
with no surrounds. Extras on both
include half-hour Comedy Central
Presents installments they starred in and Johnathan adds deleted scenes and
Premium Blend appearance, while
Regan adds an encore to the main program.
