A Bit Of Fry & Laurie – The Complete Collection… Every Bit!

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C+     Episodes: B-

Everybody who watches House, M.D. knows how talented lead actor Hugh Laurie is and if they like him enough, they might be very interested in seeing his British hit skit comedy TV series A Bit Of Fry & Laurie where he and Stephen Fry (so good in V For Vendetta and the Blackadder series) had a four-season run with a major hit TV show with the BBC, who is now releasing The Complete Collection… Every Bit!  This combines the four separately-released seasons (1987 – 1995, all 26 episodes) in a nice box.

Well, they are entertaining, but I was smiling more than I was laughing.  That is not bad and both leads are very likable & talented, but it is still more hit than miss and should be seen by anyone who likes intelligent comedy that can be funny.  Yes, some of this comedy is definitely British, but anyone will be entertained at the least.  They spoof their own format, as expected, but also get points for being original more often than you see on such shows.

The 1.33 x 1 image is pretty good for its age with consistent color and only some definition issues.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo is simple and usually clean.  The only extra is on Season Three, with early skit work by the duo as joined by a young Emma Thompson among others.  All in all, this is very interesting material you should see at least once.
