The
Discovery Channels Discovery Kids (dubbed @ DK as if they needed to be so
hip) should be trying to present more science-based programming. Instead, we get two animated comedies with
little humor and a bunch of know-it-all characters in Growing Up Creepie Creepie Creatures, V.1 and Tutenstein The Fearless Pharaoh, Volume
Three. Both are Horror/Comedies (you
can tell by the titles) that are not that funny.
Instead,
they feel like and play like warmed-over Tim Burton rejects with no point. The
Munsters, The Addams Family and Groovie Goolies (the later two reviewed
elsewhere on this site) have nothing to worry about. One is about a bug family, the other
combining Frankenstein and The Mummy to poor effect. And you wonder why the Horror genre is in
trouble. I wonder if young children can
really find repeat viewing in this stuff.
The 1.3 X
1 image in both cases are riddled with aliasing errors, but Tutenstein is much worse. Could
these look that bad in broadcast? The Dolby
Digital 2.0 is barely stereo and dialogue that can sound as flat and dull as
the jokes. Extras include trivia games,
trailers for other DK programming and Tut
Trivia on Tutenstein.
