The Law Of Ueki – Teammates Wanted (Animé/V. 7)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Episodes: C

The world of celestial beings is having a contest for the next king; each celestial candidate chooses a kid to be their champion and is given a supernatural power.  And it becomes a battle royale, losers are dropped and winners gain new talents! Ueki has be chosen in this celestial contest, but his power is to turn trash into trees... however Ueki seems uninterested fighting, but when he or his friends are in danger he finds his reason in his own brand of justice... how the heck is he supposed to win with this?

With some of the celestial candidates (and champions) bent on destroying the world or just claiming power for themselves, not only that Ueki must reach within and find his not only sense of justice, but his celestial power as well *turns out Ueki IS a celestial that grew up in the human realm, unknown to even himself!*  Ueki finally faces Robert and enters the 2nd round of the battle for the celestial throne, but for the final battles instead of one on one it becomes team battles.

Another one of those battle anime, it reminded me of a cross between One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh.  You can almost hear the dice or the cards in the background as they are being played.  But with all the weird powers it is interesting to see the story progress with new and unique characters and powers.  What gets to me is how much beating the main character can take and yet somehow still gets through, that the ultimate power didn't lie in what he can do, but the power of friends helping, supporting, protecting one another.

Episode 25: Resurrection! The Law of Mr. K

Ueki finally faces Robert in a showdown, but with his new found friends and powers will it be enough to even stop Robert?

Episode 26: Terror!  The Law of Hanon

With Robert gone there seems to be someone even more sinister and power behind it all, but starting round two it is about team battles.  Who will join Ueki?

Episode 27: The Law of Hideyoshi

Short one member in the team Ueki seeks out Hideyoshi to join, but turns out he is more tricky than he imagined, but Hideyoshi has his own reason as well...

Episode 28: The Law of the House of the Sun

With both sides trying to get Hideyoshi, Hideyoshi only want to protect the orphaned kids in the House of the Sun. But then the House of the Sun is under attack. What will he decided?

The 1.33 X 1 image once again has a mix of colorful and overly white images, the later of which is so clichéd that it ceases to be interesting on arrival.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 English and Japanese Stereo have enough Pro Logic surrounds this time to be an improvement over the initial DVD.  Extras include the usual three Geneon DVD trailers.
