If you
thought Clive Cussler’s Sahara
(reviewed elsewhere on this site) was as horrible a feature film as we did,
then you will be happy to know that he rightly sued over what a mess that film
was and be happy to hear that Cussler’s documentary series The Sea Hunters – Set One has arrived on DVD from Acorn Media. This set focuses on “relics of WWII” and
offers eight hour-long programs covering the following:
1)
Ship Of Ice
2)
Diving The V-2 Rocket Caves
3)
Leopoldville/Clayoquot: Death on
Christmas Eve
4)
Minesweeper Eddy, Heroes of the
Night
5)
The Sinking of the Wilhelm Gustoff
6)
Force Z
7)
Juno Beach: D Day Underwater
8)
Still on Patrol: Then Hunt for
Hitler’s U-Boat 215
All
offering great untold stories about WWII, episode 1 is about a ship made of ice
and other substances to keep it from melting as a military base, 2 offers what
the Nazis did to secure production of one of their most successful weapons with
the help of slave labor and 6 is about a special operation to stop the Japanese
Militarists. Cussler hosts and the show
is everything Sahara tried to
promise (fiction or otherwise) and failed miserably. If you are interested, get it.
The 1.33
X 1 image is shot on analog video and was broadcast in 203, making it one of
the last pre-HD productions of its kind.
It looks dated here and there, but is nicely shot, edited and
produced. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
is simple and clean enough to enjoy.
Extras include a text Cussler bio and bonus footage for each show.
