King Of The Cage – Rampage: Birth Of A Champion + Big Stars, Best Knockouts 5-DVD Set (BCI Eclipse)

Continuing a cycle of DVDs devoted to nothing but the sport of fist fighting, boxing and combinations thereof, BCI Eclipse throws their hat into the steel cage with the King Of The Cage DVD set.  One is a single disc focusing on the early success of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in six fights that happened in Japan of all places.  Though the footage is old and shot with more content than form, these are remarkable fights for what they are.  It is not as easy as it looks, especially when you are in the ring.  Any bar crowd can keep yelling “yea, get ‘im” because they are not there doing it.

The larger set is a combination of name fighters in the business being featured, followed by a surprising series of KOs, which have a third disc to show the action.  If you are a fan, this is fun stuff, but if not, a few fights will likely be enough.  Needless to say the Stars set has more suspense, because the other announces the KOs.

The 1.33 X 1 image on all discs are clean, but since this is older analog video, it does not transfer as well as expected.  However, they look fine for their age and the Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is barely stereo, but clear enough to hear the fights and the crowd.  There are no extras, but there is enough brawling throughout to please the DVD crowd.
