Deceit (2007/THINKFilm)

Picture: C     Sound: C+     Extras: C-     Feature: C-

Matthew Cole Weiss’ pretentiously-titled Deceit (2007) has two couples with each other and one at each other’s throats after the father of one of the men dies.  The screenplay dies soon after, leaving us with a tired, boring mess that never picks up, goes anywhere, has any suspense and wastes Joe Pantoliano to boot.

The number one problem here is zero character development and you hope the house they stay in will collapse or get hit by an earthquake or tornado just to cut into the tired, formulaic approach that has this mess falling on its face.  The title may refer to trying to pass this on as some kind of thriller.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is poor, soft, inconsistent in color, has depth issues and is basically a mess.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 is harsh, shrill and poorly recorded.  Extras include trailers (including one for this release) and a behind-the-scenes featurette.
