Many
self-help programs are about feeling good and getting organized, even when it
comes to retirement, old age and death preparation! Then you have those programs that try to
prepare one for business and are so straight-jacketing that they can
backfire. Marcus Buckingham – Go Put Your Strengths To Work (2007) combine
the two (minus the death and end-of-life part) to improve your abilities with a
strong side of capitalism.
Though I
never agree with everything any of these persons suggest, I do like the idea
that there are people who have ideas that will make you think. Some are better than other in helping you
undo old thinking and try new approaches as long as they are not as bad as
where you were to begin with. Buckingham
is a good speaker and this is one of the better such programs out there. Now you can see for yourself.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is typical for a statically shot talk
program and is just fine for its limited detail and depth, which extends to the
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo as it is adequate and does the job. Extras include a card inside asking
questions, a Q&A with Buckingham from his audience, DVD-ROM printable
documents, a survey and Buckingham working with students at the Purnell School.
That is
more than usual for WGBH or this cycle of self-help, making it one of the most
appealing DVD releases of its kind.
