Romeo & Juliet… Get Married (Life Size Entertainment DVD)

We have
seen ‘battle of the sexes’ comedies before and not many lately since they have
become tired and old hat, but apparently not in Spain. Bruno Barreto’s Romeo & Juliet… Get Married is about a lady soccer player
(Luana Piovani) who plays well for one team and a male player on the opposite
team (Luis Gustavo) is falling for her… and maybe vice-versa. If only politics and dysfunctional families
could just stay out of the way.
However,
it is everything we have seen before and even being set in Spain and with
Soccer makes no difference. Even when
the actors are good and liable, they cannot overcome the obvious and how it
runs on and on. A curio at best, but
don’t expect much.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.85 X 1 is shockingly soft, though it looks like it
was shot like a sitcom. The Dolby
Digital 2.0 Stereo is better, but also nothing great, though dialogue is
recorded well enough. Extras include a
Music Video, cast/crew interviews, making of featurette and cast/director audio
commentary track.
At least
they were sincere and ambitious.
