The Tyler
Perry formula marches on with two more entertaining entries form two different
mediums. Why Did I Get Married? In a 2007 feature film version and What’s Done In The Dark… as a new to
DVD stage play not included in the recent Tyler
Perry – The Plays DVD set. You can
read more about that set at this link:

It does
include the stage version of Married,
but in a longer version with more music.
Still, the film version is smooth, had Perry in a really good on camera
performance as one of the men on a weekend trip and shows he is becoming a
better director. The cast includes Janet
Jackson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White and many other actors
who fit perfectly into the story and have fine talent, but you might not see
otherwise anywhere else. That is one of
my favorite aspects of any of these works.
Done is about a doctor’s office of people who have their trials,
tribulations, struggles and temptations, the best of which is a storyline about
a divorced woman trying to raise her son alone while the father is too busy
worrying about his ego and $25-an-hour job.
Recently,
a critic complained about Married as yet another Perry film and that he was
sick and tired of all of them. However,
he did not offer a better such film to recommend and as it too became a
success, shows the work has things to say and that sure beats complaining.
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.85 X 1 image in Married is
a little soft with some motion blur, indicating a digital internegative with
issue, though you could think it was an HD shoot. It has detail and depth limits as well, but I
wonder if the Blu-ray will look better.
The 1.33 X 1 analog color NTSC video of the Done play is as goo din playback here with a more solid image than
expected. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix on
Married is awkward with weak dialogue and surrounds sometimes drowning out the
other sounds. The Dolby 5.1 on Done shows a pump up from audio not
intended for 5.1 and the 2.0 Dolby on both is poorer. Extras on married include three featurettes: Janet Jackson – Return Of An Icon, Reflections On Getting “Married” and the
Music Of “Married” while Done offers two “Mr. Brown” featurettes
for laughs.
