Dr.
Anthony Valentine Hill (Robson Green) returns with four more exciting cases in Wire in the Blood – The Complete Fourth
Season. The previous actress who
played Detective Carol Jordan is now replaced by a new detective Alex Fielding
(Simone Lahbib). Apparently there is no
noticeable difference from detective too detective.
The
telefilms featured in the Fourth Season
are as follows:
- Time to Murder and Create
- The psychologist and detective team look into whether or
not a strange new string of disappearances is connected to a long ended rape
case.
- Torment
- The team looks into a prostitute’s murder that strangely
resembles the killing for which a man (Derek Tyler) has already been
incarcerated for.
- Hole in the Heart
- Tony and Alex must explore whether two deaths in an
arson case are more suspicious than they even first appear.
- Wounded Surgeon
- A past case comes back to haunt Tony as an old enemy
comes up for parole.
The cases
are interesting at times, but a lot of times drag. Not only do the cases baffle the detectives,
but in many instances leaves the audience wondering why it feels more like a
soap opera than a murder case. This
reviewer was only mildly entertained and thinks the series could use some work.
The
technical features on this 4-Disc, 344 minute set are simple and to the
point. The picture is once again
presented in a 1.78 X 1 and 16 X 9 Enhanced for Widescreen televisions
format. The picture is adequate but the
16 X 9 enhancement seems to be missing its tops and bottoms at times and the
colors are most definitely off, either appearing too dark or bland. The sound is also the same in its Dolby
Digital 2.0 Stereos, again being simple but getting the job done. The extras are sparse and not thrilling in
the slightest only offering fans a couple of Bios on actors Robson Green and
Simone Lahbib. The set, as previously
stated, is simple and to the point, but unlike other series (where studios are
getting cheap) KOCH presents Wire in the Blood again in a nice
fold-out Digi-pack.
As a
first time reviewer to the series, Season
Four of Wire in the Blood was
not a point to start watching. This
reviewer had no investment in the characters and at times felt lost and could
not wait for the telefilm to be over.
The acting is great, the storylines are engaging at times, and the
production is by no means cheap; it just did not bring the thrills this
reviewer was hoping for.
