Bill Hart – Subject To Change (Jazz Instrumental CD/BHM Records)

Sound: B-     Music: B-

In the first Jazz CD I have listened to in a while, Bill Hart’s Subject To Change is loaded with new material and may even be ambitious, but though I liked the approach, the album as a whole did not stay with me.  The mixed reaction comes from the following tracks:

1)     On My Way Home

2)     Look Out For June

3)     Jim Gilligan

4)     Sara’s Song

5)     Anna Banana

6)     Loose Gravel

7)     Subject To Change

8)     You’re Next

9)     Canadese Africano

10)  What Are You Doing

11)  This Is Why

12)  Inside Out

13)  Spazio Aperto

14)  It’s Working

15)  Cercht Nel Grano

I even thought the musicians were having a good time, but something about the overall feel just never comes together.  Jazz fans may like it more, so they should check it out.  I was interested in hearing more of his work just the same.

The PCM 16/44.1 2.0 Stereo is a little rough for a new recording, a little tinny and even a tad harsh, resulting in playback that is a little disappointing.
