Elmo’s World – Summer Vacation (Genius DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Main Program: C+

Issued in time for June 2008, Elmo’s World – Summer Vacation is an amusing look at the basics we sometimes take for granted, but would certainly help young children understand and enjoy what is involved these days in people enjoying themselves outside, at play and if lucky, at the beach.  Of course, it explains everything from the sun, to skin care, to camera use, though since the original pre-Elmo Sesame Street, we have become a camera-mania society.

However, this show like other in the series and side series makes this all simple without being condescending and with how increasing kid-unfriendly this society has become, a very interesting installment with its unintended ironies.

Once again, the 1.33 X 1 NTSC videotaped image is colorful and detail limited, but fine for children, along with Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo that will keep children happy.  There are again, surprisingly no extras.
