Dallas - Season Nine (Warner Bros. DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: C+     Episodes: B-

Having reviewed the previous eight seasons here at this site here: http://www.fulvuedrive-in.com/review/6625/Dallas, we now take a look at Season Nine when the show started finally putting more money into the production to compete with Dynasty (also on this site) and the drama and unintentional comedic moments continue.

It’s evident by Season Nine that things needed to be beefed up and new direction had to be taken here and there in order to keep the show fresh, plus keep the show in the top ratings.  The writers manage to do that and by bringing back actress Barbara Bel Geddes after her Season Eight departure allowed the show to build some momentum.  This and the famous shower scene/dream sequence and other wacky moments make for entertaining television and showcase just how interesting the 80’s really were.

The entire season is broken down into 2 DVD cases with each case containing 2 discs.  Therefore there are a total of 4 discs, but they are dual-sided to feature all 1,485-minutes of commercial-free Dallas-mania.  The technical specs are like that of the previous seasons with the full-frame picture and Dolby Mono mix, which are again on-par with the previous seasons.

Extras include a segment on Bel Geddes return, plus a segment on the “shower scene”, which adds a bit of weight to this set and will please fans of the show the way they are pleased that the Jennifer Lopez/John Travolta film just imploded and was cancelled.
