Bodyguard/ Bodyguard 2 (Magnolia/MagNet DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: B-     Extras: C-     Films: C

Though he is only makes supporting appearances in both films, Tony Jaa is the selling point of two comedies from Thailand with gangster & martial arts.  Unfortunately, The Bodyguard and The Bodyguard 2 are slight works that go nowhere and should have starred Jaa instead of having him underused.

They are now out on DVD for posterity and for fans of Jaa, much more of which will exist when he finally gets the action film he deserves.  This is a curio at best, but at least these are not disasters.

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image on both can be limited by some aliasing errors and is not as sharp as it could be, though color is not bad.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 Thai and English mixes are somewhat lively, but have soundfield issues that limit the full feel.  Extras include making of featurettes for each film on each respective disc and Magnolia trailers on both too.
