The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye, Vol 6 – Final Decisions (Right Stuf DVD/Episodes 21-24)

Picture: C+     Sound: B     Extras: B     Episodes: B

In the future, after a great war Earth is a dessert wasteland filled with dangers and mutant monsters.  Only the strong survive, hunters who roam the dessert with their tanks taking on odd jobs and salvaging for others. But the humans aren't alone, the mysterious race of the 'Thirds' that watch over mankind.  What is their purpose?  Honoka a young hunter travels over the world with her tank Boogie discovering the mysteries and what has changed this world.

The story continues with Honoka, the girl with the blue eye.  After Honoka infiltrates the enemy fortress to rescue Joganki from the mysterious Rona Fauna, but who is she? Why is she doing this?  Who are the Thirds and what powers do they have?  Why have the Thirds been imposing 'Techno's Taboo' on the humans and yet have technology themselves?

The final chapter, as the main character travels deeper into uncharted areas she discovers more of the past and what the 'Thirds' are trying to do.  The Thirds aren't all a heartless race that is trying to rule or suppress mankind... that they maybe be more human than people have though. As the past begins catch up the pieces begin to fall in place...

This was an interesting sci-fi anime, in its setting, theme and characters.  As the series reaches its conclusion it begins to explain bits of the past and why things work the way they do.  The story gets more serious and tense add to the suspense to the final scene.  Over all the series was well animated and the story kept interesting to the end, even thought it wasn't one of those 'save the world' anime.  Even thought it was a high tech world it felt like a Wild West story, bit of adventure, beautiful scenes, and even a bit of romance.

Honoka finally faces Rona Fauna at the core of the fortress.  She learns of her past and her ties with Joganki and why there are so many 'clones' of her... but can she reach her and stop the Wormhole Drive in the end?
