Avatar – The Last Air Bender: The Complete Book 3 Collection (Nickelodeon DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: B-     Extras: A     Episodes: A+

Far away long time ago there was the nations of Water, Earth, Fire and Air.  Each nation could control and manipulate their elements, they all lived together in harmony.  That is until the Fire Nation attacked, seeking to control all nations.  Only the power of the Avatar could stop them, the only one who can manipulate all four elements... but when the Avatar was need the most he disappeared.  100 years later Sokka and his sister discover Aang an Airbender, the Avatar.  Could this young boy be one to stop the Firelord Ozai?

Having barely survived in his last battle with Azula, Aang awakens to discover the Fire Nation is more powerful than ever, and everyone thinks he is dead on top of that!  But more importantly can he recover enough to fight again?  Unlikely help appears as Aang and his friends prepare to strike back, but only to discover Firelord Ozai has even greater plans for the four kingdoms.  Can Aang live up to be the Avatar and stop Firelord Ozai's evil plans?

Based in an Asian like world, the world of Avatar is filling with mysticism, martial arts and mystic creatures.  The elements are controlled by 'benders', while most people aren't benders, majority of the main characters are.  Only the Avatar can however manipulate all four elements.  But after 100 years of the Fire Nation reign, can Aang learn to master all the elements to stop the Firelord?  After a crushing defeat, Aang has to mend his body but his spirit as well.

I found this series amusing, as well as heavily influenced by many Asian cultures, not only in martial arts but its customs, styles to how the characters acted.  But it also has many modern influences as well, teaching morals, small wisdoms, and friendships.  I liked the how some of the episodes were sometimes just comedy and not always adventure.  What I enjoyed was the relationships and stories that followed each one of the character, each episode might explain some of the past or development of a character and later you could see how it influenced them.  The series had different points of views, not only from the good guys but the bad guys as well... and you find not all bad guys were absolutely bad (except the Firelord) and made it a more fun and interesting series.  It's great when you get the box set, you get the whole thing (or season) all at once not only do you get a nice box with art to put the DVDs in but it includes a bonus disc with art, interviews and more.
