All I Want For Christmas + A Grandpa
For Christmas (Genius DVD)

Here
comes two more Christmas DVDs issued too many months before they need to be,
with one a dud and the other a bore that did not have to be. All I
Want For Christmas (not to be confused with the awful theatrical film with
Leslie Nielsen) is a mess about a widow (Gail O’Grady) finding love and not
committing suicide. If this were any
worse, the viewer would die of boredom.
A Grandpa For Christmas has Ernest Borgnine and Katherine Helmond in a watchable
bit about an estranged father/daughter who are forced to deal with each other
when she is in a car accident and her 10-year-old daughter has to stay with the
grandfather (Borgnine) she never knew.
Though serviceable, the script does not do enough with the veteran
actors to be memorable, adding up to everything we’ve seen before.
The
anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 images in both cases are the same soft looking
TV production that are not that memorable, while the Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is
simple stereo. There are no extras. Unless you really liker any of the name
actors, skip ‘em.
