Criss Angel has recently emerged as one of the great illusionists of our time, his work is often criticized or scrutinized, but most people are still baffled by his work.  Often the biggest critique is that his work is fake, or that his show is produced in such a way to turn his illusions into mere gimmicks.  If this were true or if this is true, he must be able to pay off people pretty well to keep the secrets hidden.  Regardless, people need to realize that the art of magic in this case is that of illusion, or visual deception.  The fact that he causes much controversy only demonstrates that as a craftsman he has honed his skill to the point of disbelief for many, even if they can’t figure out how he does it!

I enjoy his shows and we already covered his first season of Mindfreak here in its U.S. NTSC release:

Umbrella Entertainment has issued a Region 4 PAL formatted DVD release of his Halloween Special, so for those who have region-free players you can obtain this DVD and enjoy for this Halloween.  The feature runs 45-minutes and is a good selection of small tricks mixed with a more show-like presentation as he hosts this special and that all leads up to the final illusion.  There are also two episodes here from Season One: Up Close and Uncut.

The show is presented in its full-frame television aspect ratio with 2.0 Dolby Stereo sound and both are decent considering they are fairly less produced and more of handheld camera type of production anyway.  Picture and sound are not superb, but decent enough to work for this type of performance.
