Talk Talk – Live At Montreux 1986 (Eagle DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: B-     Extras: D     Concert: B

Among the great underrated New Wave bands of the 1980s, Talk Talk was better than many gave them credit for at the time and thanks to No Doubt’s fun remake of the band’s classic It’s My Life, new interest in the band has resurfaced.  Eagle has added to the fun by releasing Talk Talk – Live At Montreux 1986, a surprisingly good concert that runs about 90 minutes and show the band at their best with some fine playing, singing and material that should have done better in the U.S. than it did.

The songs performed include:

1)     Talk Talk

2)     Dum Dum Girl

3)     Call In The Night Boy

4)     Tomorrow Started

5)     My Foolish Friend

6)     Life’s What You Make It

7)     Does Caroline Know?

8)     It’s You

9)     Living In Another World

10)  Give It Up

11)  It’s My Life

12)  I Don’t Believe In You

13)  Such A Shame

14)  Renée

The anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is from higher quality analog video of the time, so it is going to be soft and have limit issues, but color is good just the same.  Fortunately, the DTS 5.1, PCM 16/48 2.0 Stereo and even Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes are not bad, but none can hide the age of the audio.  It does not sound too bad, with the DTS and PCM bringing out the best with the source available and Mark Hollis’ vocals do sound very good as a result.  Unfortunately, there are no extras.
