BOO! Frightfully
Funny is back and this time they brought a cat!!
The set
consists of 3 separate Discs (Disc 1 also being sided). Disc 1 contains Groovie Goolies on one side and Fraidy Cat on the other; discs 2 and 3 are Filmation’s Ghostbusters.
Fraidy Cat was a 1975 animated series that
apparently appeared on Uncle Croc’s
Block; a short lived animated/ live action morning show for children on ABC
in association with Filmation Studios. Uncle Croc’s Block was hosted by the
great Charles Nelson Reilly and featured cartoons like Fraidy Cat, M-U-S-H, and Wacky
and Packy; unfortunately only Fraidy
Cat is the only one of the three appears on this set. The premise of Fraidy Cat is that a ‘miserable’ cat is on his last life and he
plans on holding onto it for as long as he can.
The problem is that when Fraidy Cat even mentions a number from 1-8, a
ghost from one of his former lives appears to torment and make his life even
worse. The mischievous ghosts sometimes
help and other times just haunt, but one thing is certain… having been
frightened out of his last 8 lives he his certainly trying to protect this one.
The
episodes of Groovie Goolies and Filmation’s Ghostbusters that appear on
this set are the same as those previously released; with Groovie Goolies finishing up the few episodes that did not appear
on Frightfully Funny: Volume One and
Filmation’s Ghostbusters being
another blend of episodes from Volume
One and Volume Two of the previously released Filmation’s Ghostbusters’ sets.
The
collection is well worth it simply for the opportunity to own Fraidy Cat, but also is nice if you
only want a taste of both Groovie
Goolies and/or Filmation’s
Ghostbusters. All the same great
animation, scares, and laughs are there; just in a very condensed version.
The
technical features are the same as the previous volume and the several Groovie Goolie and Filmation’s Ghostbusters sets, having a solid picture and sound
presentation that any fan should be pleased with. The extras are once again absent from this Frightfully Funny Collection and offer
nothing even as far as Fraidy Cat goes. I am afraid that this set was a bit of a let
down as far as extras go.

The set
is worth it just for Fraidy Cat; go
to your closest local haunted establishment and pick this set up.
