The
Cheetah Girls – One World – Extended Music Edition (Disney
Blu-ray)
Picture: B- Sound: B Extras: C- Film: C-
I barely noticed The Cheetah Girls
and now am forced to see their exploits in the short narrative quasi-musical
mess One World. To quote Anthony Newley, stop this world, I
want to get away!
Taking the worst possible cues
from Bollywood comedy musicals, the trio is down on their luck, but maybe if
they can pull together with some inspiration from the great, divine Brahma
himself (which they get form a restaurant visit; good thing they didn’t go to a
burger joint, or they may have turned to Little Eva, Patsy Cline, Connie
Francis or Brenda Lee, but then that would have made them have to really sing!)
so you can imagine what follows in this trite, tired, lame bore of a
release. They are attractive for their
age, but when they try to be Janet Jackson, the wardrobe malfunctions are
replaced by music ones.
The 1080p 1.78 X 1 image is really
bad and not always 1080p by any means, with motion blur and some shots that are
manipulated to look jerky, seem to drop frames and make one think they are
watching a precursor to Phillips’ CDi format, with jittery frames that will
make older viewers remember old CD-ROM programs. This is one of the poorest of the Disney
Blu-rays for picture and no match for their top notch product. The PCM 48/16 5.1 mix fares a bit better, but
the sound is compressed and non-music scenes are towards the front channels. Extras include Music Videos (nooooooooo),
Rock-Along Mode, Bloopers and “Cheetah Spots” that add “fun facts” to the film
as you watch. It is just never fun.
Except for diehard fans, skip this
one!
