Dallas – The Complete Tenth Season (Warner DVD)

In the
long run, when I defend Dynasty over
Dallas, there are many examples of
how much I liked the former over the later, though the early seasons hold up
better than we expected. Here are our

Now many
could say that Lorimar’s ability to finally put more money into the later
seasons is like putting lipstick on a pig, but that would be a cheap shot and
not my #1 reason for how Dynasty
surpassed the show. Instead, this is the
infamous season where after the last was so bad and missing Patrick Duffy, he
suddenly reappeared and the show moved on like nothing happened. I even passed on reviewing that season to
show my fairness.
As noted
before, after that “dream season” and all the ridicule it received, the show
never got its act back together and though it added new characters here and
there, kept most of the original cast together to its credit and ended while it
was ahead. Duffy was too important to
its success, but for all their success and money with the show off-screen, they
could not have come up with a better idea to bring him back?
29
hour-long shows are included across the three double-sided DVDs and are really
for completists only. To this day, it is
the most absurd beginning to a TV series since the debut of My Mother The Car and we doubt that
will change for years to come. Now you
can see for yourself as the show simply ran out of steam.
The 1.33
X 1 image throughout is weaker than the previous sets with a strained look and
detail issues, likely because these were finished on analog videotape and not
upgraded. The Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono
across all sets also sounds second generation and maybe even worse often enough. There are no extras, but maybe the final set
will add something.
