Breakfast At Tiffany’s (Paramount Centennial Collection DVD Set)

Picture: B     Sound: B     Extras: B     Film: B

While we already covered the Anniversary Edition of Breakfast at Tiffany’s here, we are back with the Paramount Centennial Collection edition DVD, which is a 2-disc edition that has a new transfer to boot.  The big question on most peoples mind though would be whether the upgrade from previous DVD versions is worth it.  Well, the short answer is that if you own any DVD except the Anniversary Edition, than the answer is yes, but if you own the Anniversary Edition, than you really won’t notice much improvement with this new edition.

The transfer is new for this Centennial Collection, which is only slightly stronger and much of this is due to the fact that the entire film exists on disc one, while the supplements are on the second disc.  There are moments where color is a little more dynamic, but overall the subtleties are so small that you won’t really notice without doing a side-by-side comparison.  The transfer is still framed at an anamorphically enhanced 1.78 X 1 with Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 mixes that are also equal to the previous Anniversary Edition, but perhaps a bit more refinement, which is partially due to less compression as the disc is dedicated to the film, not the supplements.

Then there are the extras, which include commentary by producer Richard Shepherd, a making of segment, an Audrey featurette, a behind the scenes tour, plus several production featurettes, a segment on Henry Mancini and the memorable score, plus an 8-page liner notes.  Always a great film to recommend and until the Blu-ray arrives this version OR the Anniversary are both worthy of ownership.
