The Tenth Circle (2008/Sony DVD)

Picture: C+     Sound: C+     Extras: D     Telefilm: C+

Rape is a very serious subject and at first, Peter Markel’s The Tenth Circle (2008) deals with the ugly situation when a high school teen gal accuses a guy of violating her, but it all becomes more complicated and has unexpected consequences.  Then the teleplay adds too many twists and almost trivializes the rape itself.  However, this is well acted, including good performances from Kelly Preston as the mother who is cheating, Ron Eldard as the father who has problems of his own and Britt Robertson as the victim.

I was happy with the sensitivity that he subject was treated with at first, but this TV movie looses focus on the most important points when it goes off into directions that have nothing to do with the case at hand and whether it is faithful to the book it is based on or not, its conclusion is a problem.  Now, you can see for yourself.

The anamorphically enhance 1.78 X 1 image is not bad with a little motion blur, but a good shoot for a TV movie these days and watchable.  The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is stretching simpler sound a bit more than they should, but the recording is not bad.  There are no extras.
