True Confessions Of A Hollywood Starlet (2008/Anchor Bay/Starz DVD)

Nothing
like Lifetime trying to be hip, but that is exactly what we get with the
absolutely goofy and dumb True
Confessions Of A Hollywood Starlet with would-be tween star Jojo (of the
awful RV) as a star (duh!) whose
fame causes her to have too much stress and has a nervous breakdown. Her family sends her to go with her Aunt (an
out of her element Valerie Bertinelli) to get well (versus professional help?)
and to pretend she is someone else, because despite her popularity, no one will
possibly notice it is really her.
Her
make-up is so clever, Martin Landau and Tom Cruise should take lessons, not…
It just
gets worse and worse, but the biggest surprise is that it is actually directed
by competent actor Tim Matheson, easily doing the worst work of his career
behind the camera. I guess the economy
must be tough, but then so is sitting through this disaster. It is one thing to warn you and tell you how
bad, but seeing is believing. However,
this will be like your brain on drugs, so skip it!
The anamorphically
enhanced 1.78 X 1 image is soft and has far more motion blur than a current
production should have, making it a difficult viewing. The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix is really lame and
when it is not loud, it is weak, with an awkward mix that one would never call
a soundfield. You get a trailer, but is
that really an extra?
