Sam Kinison - Unleashed (Mill Creek DVD)

Picture: C     Sound: C     Extras: C     Concerts: B

As the Bush II Years dragged on, I wondered what Sam Kinison would have had to say.  Outside of calling for the death of anyone watching Mama’s Family, the loss of his subversive humor continues to be greatly missed.  We have been lucky enough to cover his work before:

This new single DVD has two of his past HBO concerts: Breaking The Rules (1987) and the exceptionally entitled Family Entertainment Hour (1991) as the man goes into action and holds nothing back.  At the time, he was a whirlwind of shock and now, he is a force of nature lost.  Good to have this available and in print.

The 1.33 X 1 full frame image in all cases is taped in analog NTSC format, with the main shows looking soft and bonus footage very aged.  The Dolby Digital 2.0 sound is simple stereo at best and has background noise, as well as other sonic limits.  Extras include bonus stand up footage unseen before and with a laugh meter.
